What does Easter mean?

I don’t know much about the beliefs of the Church. How can I become more knowledgeable about my faith?

There are so many things you could use: books, websites, videos, courses etc.

‍

  • A good Catholic Bible is essential, e.g. The Jerusalem Bible, NRSV Catholic Edition, Christian Community Bible (Catholic Edition); or English Standard Version (Catholic Edition). The Good News Bible is a good choice if English is not your first language;
  • Books such as How to Survive being Married to a Catholic, and Catholicism for Dummies provide a good starting point;
  • Official Catholic texts like YouCat (Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church) or the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church have more detail;
  • Catholic parishes often have a group for adults who want to learn about their faith, and you could join one: it might be called ‘RCIA’, ‘Alpha’ or ‘Journey in Faith’ etc.
  • There are many online resources and videos you can access to find out more such as Sycamore, Formed, Catholic Central, SophiaTeachers, and Chosen;
  • There are theological study courses, e.g. the Catholic Certificate of Religious Studies (“CCRS”) or a Certificate in Catechesis.

‍

However you choose to learn more, it is important to give yourself time to reflect on what you learn and experience, by yourself and with others, in prayer and study. Faith is personal, but we all benefit from sharing and spending time with God and others.

Material produced in collaboration with the Agency for Evangelisation in the Diocese of Westminster.
