What we’re about

Why we do what we do

We are a helpline that exists to accompany people who are exploring or returning to the Catholic Faith, through compassionate conversations.

We want to help you find a friend in Jesus and a home in His Church.

Our story

When COVID-19 lockdowns were causing churches across the world to close their doors, our team felt called to create a new way for those who were looking to explore or return to the Catholic Faith.

Soon, we felt inspired to create a helpline for people to call and explore their questions with trained and compassionate listeners.

So after securing funding for the project, carrying out our research and training a team of call handlers, we launched Catholic Listeners in the Holy Week of 2022.

We’ve been taking calls ever since.

Our values

  • Compassionate listening

Listening deeply and with great care to our callers, reverencing what Pope Francis calls ‘the sacred ground of the other’.

  • The Father’s welcome

Welcoming people with real love, particularly those who have experienced the Church as an unwelcoming place.

  • Care for the individual

Focusing on the individual and accompanying them on their journey, aware of the loneliness and anxiety many in our society experience.

  • Hope for the future

Offering people the hope that faith in Jesus gives us, aiming to move them forward in a positive direction.

  • Invitational

Always providing a next step for people to take and discerning what would be appropriate for them where they are on their journey.

  • Confidentiality

Ensuring that conversations with callers are completely confidential, enabling a relationship of trust to develop and allowing for real openness.

About Landings

Landings is a series of informal small group meetings that offer a safe and supported ‘landing place’ for Catholics who have been away from the Church and are thinking about coming back.

About the ‘Becoming a Catholic’ course

The ‘Becoming a Catholic’ course has been designed to show how the Catholic Faith has the scope and power to bring about personal transformation, beginning with re-thinking the way that we live.
