What does Easter mean?

Church and Politics don’t mix; is that true?

No. It is impossible to separate the two completely because our faith should affect every aspect of our lives, including ‘political things’. This includes how we think the world we live in should be governed, how we vote, what principles underpin our society, its laws, institutions and culture. So, the Church will often speak on a key political issue of the day, perhaps endorsing one approach or viewpoint.

‍

However, the Church should never endorse a political organisation, party or individual. This is because no one political organisation, party or individual is perfect nor does any single one represent the entirety of the Church’s views.

‍

Therefore since 1997 the Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales (CBCEW) has produced information about key political and religious issues before some general elections including this year’s one.

Material produced in collaboration with the Agency for Evangelisation in the Diocese of Westminster.
