What does Easter mean?

What is the point of being a Christian?

Jesus tells us the purpose of following him in the Gospel of John: ‘I came that they might have lifeand have it to the full.’ (John 10:10)· The point of Christianity is to recognise that we have been made on purpose, out of love and thatit is by following Jesus we can discover what it means to live life to the full, and to be fully human.

Christianity recognises that life is not perfect, even if we seem to have all we need materially. It recognises too, that relationship is the core of what it means to be human.

Christians believe we are made to be in harmony with God, others, creation and ourselves but that there are things which get in the way, disrupt or break those relationships. We call this “sin”.

Christians believe in one God, with three persons: God the Father – our creator; God the Son –Jesus Christ; and God the Holy Spirit. The Father respects our free will and does not ignore what causes discord and separation, but loves us too much to leave us there. So, out of love for us, Jesus came to save us. Through the Holy Spirit we discover the joy of being freed from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness by helping us to encounter Jesus Christ.
